The Trace Marine Bilge Sock

Trace Marine Bilge Socks, Pads, and Oil Booms

United States Environmental Protection Agency
Certification of Trace Marine Bilge Socks as a sorbent.

"EPA believes that the use of sorbents, by themselves, will not create deleterious effects on the environment because sorbent materials are essentially inert and insoluble in water and because the basic components of sorbents are non-toxic..."

The Bilge Pad featuring proprietary technology is engineered and designed for eliminating the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination which normally occurs during boat operations. The Bilge Pad will absorb the contaminant and allow the boater to discharge clean water from the bilge pump.

The Bilge Pad measures 9" (length) by 4" (width) by 2" depth. A unique capability of our proprietary technology is the ability to "wick" the petroleum hydrocarbon contaminant into the structure. The macro porous structure allows for maximum surface area contact with the contaminant and therefore continuing absorption efficiency. The Bilge Pad is wrapped in a thin monofilament mesh package designed to maintain structural integrity of the product as well as to allow the maximum surface contact with the oil derived contaminant.

• Eliminates rainbow sheen in marina and boat bilges
• Absorbs 3-5 times its weight in fuel, oil and grease
• Permanently encapsulates oil, gasoline and diesel fuel
• Does not absorb water
• Considered Best Available Technology and BMP
• Easy to install and maintain
• Closed-loop recycling program
• Remains completely buoyant

Marina - Trace Marines bilge sock Technology is engineered and designed for eliminating the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination, which normally occurs during boat operations. Our products offers solutions for the Marina industry that would absorb contaminants and allow boaters to discharge clean water from bilge pumps. Our product is also considered Non-Hazardous Material, meaning that there is no risk of leaching in landfills. The Bilge Pad could be thrown into a trash can. We provide disposal vessels in order to dispose of our Pads and Socks in the most environmentally friendly manner.

Trace Marines bilge socks absorb and transform many petroleum products into a rubber-like material including:

  • Gasoline
  • Jet Fuel
  • Diesel Fuels
  • Transformer Oils
  • Hydraulic Oils
  • Lube Oils
  • Aromatic Solvents
  • Chlorinated Solvents
  • Fumes
  • Light Crudes and many other compounds...

Marine Dye Tabs

"Safe for our Marine Environment"

Trace Marines dye tabs are EPA approved and they are the only full line of tracer products certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) to the ANSI/NSF Standard 60 for use in potable water at recommended levels. They are biodegradable and safe for the environment. The benefits of using our dye tabs are:

  • Safe
  • Non-toxic
  • Biodegradable
  • Will not stain your vessel

Dye Tablets Directions:

Open the packet of dye tabs and empty directly into the toilet of the vessel. Flush the toilet for 10 seconds. Immediately following this, check around the vessel to see if there is any trace of the dye entering the water. If you see dye around the vessel after flushing toilet, it means that the sewage in the holding tank is being dumped directly into the water. If no dye appears after flushing the head, you can be assured that the sewage is being contained within the holding tank.

What can I do to remove the dye?

The color of all dyes will disappear if the solution is mixed with chlorine. Add approximately 4 grams of 12% bleach for every gram of product in the solution. Adding water will also dilute dye concentration.

What should be done if someone ingests a tablet, and is it toxic or hazardous?

Trace Marine dye tabs are safe and non-toxic and will not adversely affect one's health. In case of ingestion, drink several large glasses of water. The person's perspiration and urine will be tinted the color of the dye for a short period of time.
